Canon 5D Mk II vs Canon 5D at Akihabara

The guys at Akihabara are doing some very cool tests with a Canon 5D Mk II in Tokyo and the direct comparison with the older 5D is nicely demonstrating that the new Canon is no step back in terms of noise, despite its 21Mp resolution.

In fact, Akihabara states that ISO 3200 with the 5D Mk II gives similar results to ISO 800 with the 5D! If that is true (we need to see more tests and reviews) then the 5D Mk II is a no brainer. And I am saying this because the 5D is still offering top performance despite its age.

For those looking for bargains, both cameras are terrific in their own ways. The 5D for its (now) lower price as long as stocks last, and the 5D Mk II for superb resolution married to Full HD video capability. It will be great to check out whether Red will be able to up the ante with its now rethought DSMC.
