Ikonoskop interview on A-cam dII camcorder by FreshDV

ElectronRun has covered the Ikonoskop A-cam dII in September. It is a unique design in every way, from its shape and light weight to the proprietary 80GB flash card.

Following the launch of the new videocamera at the recent IBC show, FreshDV has a very informative interview of with one of Ikonoskop’s people. It is a behind the scenes description of the camera’s key features and aims. It has a zero compression philosophy, resulting in minimal in-camera circuitry, and consequently a compact, fan-free, light body that comes to less than 1.5kg including camera and flash storage!

There is three videocamera versions for C-mount, PL-mount or the IMS system that takes still camera lens from Nikon, Canon or Leica. The body includes a low-res viewfinder and an OLED menu/playback screen. Files come in open format RAW DNG files and it is made clear that the software is still coming along, together with the power management and the finalised menu details.

The discussion more or less covers all the issues regarding an under development camcorder model, showing the complication, agony and number of technical issues a small outfit like Ikonoskop has to deal with. Luckily however (like Red) these are people that do not belong to large corporate structures and their user-centric approach is very clear.
