Pretec has gone CompactFlash crazy (new 100GB!!!! cards)

When its competitors were fiddling with 4GB CompactFlash cards, Pretec already had released 12GB and 16GB models. So when Sandisk presents its new Extreme IV CompactFlash at 16GB and 45MB/s in Photokina, it is no surprise that Pretec goes to 50GB, 64GB (pictured) or 100GB capacities!!! Here is some model details and prices:

  • 100GB CF card, 233x speed or 35MB/s, price not yet known.
  • 64GB CF card, 233x speed or 35MB/s, 400.
  • 50GB CF card, 333x speed or 50MB/s, price not yet known.
  • 32GB CF card, 333x speed or 50MB/s, $630.

At these capacities and speeds (50MB/s is the world’s fastest for CF cards at the moment) we could well see some great video applications. Of course these are also ideal for the new DSLRs that can also do HD video or for ultra high capacity medium format cameras or the new 37Mp Leica S2.

Now 64GB SSDs look mighty small don’t they? Nobody had a doubt that the future of storage is solid state, things move really quickly for photo and video that have certainly matured significantly in that respect.
