I have not seen many Sigma SD14 cameras around, despite the high-tech approach of the sensor. Sigma however is not giving up and has presented at Photokina the SD15, again with the same 14Mp Foveon sensor, a new True II image processor and a 3 inch LCD. 14Mp is a lot of resolution and the [...]
When it seemed that Panasonic was having the Micro Four Thirds field all to itself with the Lumix DMC-G1, Olympus presented at Photokina a prototype of its own idea on how a Micro Four Thirds camera should look. Clearly, the effort is in making a stylish product, with retro look and more in the line [...]
When its competitors were fiddling with 4GB CompactFlash cards, Pretec already had released 12GB and 16GB models. So when Sandisk presents its new Extreme IV CompactFlash at 16GB and 45MB/s in Photokina, it is no surprise that Pretec goes to 50GB, 64GB (pictured) or 100GB capacities!!! Here is some model details and prices:
100GB CF card, [...]
If you still have a videocamera/camcorder that utilises FireWire (IEEE 1394) but are stuck with a laptop without that type of connection, it is a serious dead end. Desktops can easily (and cheaply) have a FireWire PCI card upgrade, but with a laptop this simply cannot be done (internally).
Pixela is coming to the resque with its [...]
Leica has got a distinctive camera model range and is already well known for its high quality lenses. In this Photokina however, it is making one of its boldest steps ever, it is unveiling its own DSLR! And this is no run-of-the-mill machine. We are talking about a 37Mp beast with the overall size of [...]
The very recently leaked K-m Pentax DSLR is finally called the K2000, in time for the Photokina show opening today. The whole effort is in packaging the features of the K200 in a more compact body, As a result we have a 10Mp sensor, 2.7 inch LCD, sensitivity up to ISO 3200, dust removal system [...]
The new Leaf we talked about back in August will be finally called AFi-II and will arrive in three flavours, the 10, 7 and 6. The 10 and 7 will have a 90 degree swiveling LCD screen, while sensor resolutions will be 56, 33 and 28Mp respectively. Similarly for the equivalent Aptus II digital backs.
1080p video might have become an everyday occurrence coming from all directions. We have typical camcorders or now even DSLRs like the new Canon 5D Mk II. However, very simply put, Ikonoskop’s A-cam dll is a very different design coming from Sweden.
The CCD is 10.6mmx6mm (Super-16), while the frame rate is adjustable to anything up [...]
As an icing on the 5D Mark II cake, Canon announced a new EF 24mm f1.4 II USM prime lens. Its sophisticated construction and bright nature will ensure accurate colours and fast reactions even under very difficult lighting conditions. It is also sealed against dust and humidity.
The price is not known at this point, but [...]
It seems that Panasonic is carrying the full Micro Four Thirds weight, with Olympus nowhere to be seen or heard yet in this new product category. As a result, together with the DMC-G1 body we talked about yesterday, there are two new Panasonic lenses:
Panasonic Lumix G VARIO 14-45mm/F3.5-5.6 Mega O.I.S.
Panasonic Lumix G VARIO 45-200mm/F4.0-5.6 [...]
It’s finally here! Two years of success for the 5D and some recent teaser ads bring us to the much awaited successor, the 5D Mark II. Was the wait worth it? You bet! Just look at the specs that Canon officially released today:
Full frame 21.1Mp sensor with integrated dust cleaning system.
14-bit analog-to-digital conversion.
Same form factor [...]
The new Micro Four Thirds system announced in August by Olympus and Panasonic is a welcome innovation in a play-it-safe DSLR market and Panasonic is now announcing the first ever Micro Four Thirds body, the Lumix DMC-G1! The main specifications are as follows
An acquaintance once told me that using a Canon DSLR with non-Canon lens is liking putting a Fiat engine in a Mercedes-Benz car. I am not 100% sure what to make of this statement because not all lens are the same, and it seems to me that even if that statement was absolutely true, in [...]
It is no surprise that the US is the leader in per capita electronics consumption. Surprisingly, gadget crazy Japan is a long way behind, Russia is unexpectedly high, China is rising -bear in mind that the majority there still dreams of gadgets- and the EU is relatively high only in certain countries. What does more [...]
