Shelby wants to be petrol and EV king

Following its success in exceeding the Bugatti Veyron’s top speed record, Shelby Supercars (SSC) goes one level up to establish itself as a green supercar champion. Tesla’s statement has certainly not gone unnoticed. We have for example written about the Hybrid Technologies sports car, as well as Audi’s electrical aspirations. But Shelby’s plans are on a higher plane, that of EV supercars.

So far details are not known. All we have learned is that SSC can use one or preferably two 500bhp motors, the second scenario to definitely giving superb acceleration prowess. There is however a lot of info to be filled in. For example it is not clear what kind of batteries will supply such powerful motors.

And the statement of Shelby that it will be possible “to have years between recharging batteries” makes things even more shadowy. Are we talking about a new technology here? At a time when Ferrari -conservatively- decides to move to hybrid technology, it would be great to know how SSC would pull it off. Or are we simply talking about… battery life and replacement?
