Windows XP to live on after Dell’s June 18th cutout

So Dell has decided to pull the plug right? Well not really, because although the mothership has decided to stop XP sales at the end of this month, you can still play the back-door man and wait it out with XP till the arrival of Windows 7. Here is some options:
- Buy a new computer with Vista and a downgrade option -the case of Dell- effectively doing what you want in a double step.
- Use your XP license from the installation on your old machine and transfer it to a newer one.
- Buy one of the available netbooks with a maximum screen size of 10 inches and an official XP option as set by Microsoft. Here XP is for now the only real alternative to Linux, as Vista tends to be “heavy” for light and slower machines.
The noise over Vista has been blown out of all proportions. With SP1 expect everything you expect from XP with SP3, the OS runs fine, it is pleasant in many ways, and to be honest I can hardly see anything wrong with it. Don’t be silly and stick with XP if you get a new machine. Older or slower netbook machines are the only real applications where XP should still be considered. Microsoft might be treated by many as Darth Vader’s evil empire but so it is with Google, Yahoo and Apple…
