Is there a new Nikon D10?

Engadget calls it a unicorn, Gizmodo is convinced it is a photoshopped fake image. However nobody can deny that Nikon has lately become quite aggressive and has probably surpassed Canon in innovation, performance and attractive new models.

The only real difference in the ranges of the two companies being the full-frame Canon 5D, it would be surprising if Nikon did not ready its own gun for the battle of Photokina in September. Is that good? It is great man, full-frame has been so expensive up to now because Canon has been alone in the game -up to the arrival of the Nikon D3. What we want is more models, more competition, the prices to go down. Sony how about you making a move also? Expect this summer to be rumour heaven for DSLR fans, all the way to the buildup to the official September press conferences…

Nikon is falling behind Canon at that point and they have to do something soon (by the end of the year).

Model-wise the D3 and D300 got rave reviews and it seems that Canon and Nikon are at the moment on a roughly equal level. The fact that Canon designs and makes its own sensors gives it an edge, however this has not shown since last year.
