5 reasons the Macbook Air stands no chance against netbooks
Many times Apple gets it right. This time though the timing was incredibly hopeless. Releasing the Macbook Air just before the torrent of new netbooks floods the market was in my opinion a horrible idea. For more than one reason. Here is five good ones:
- Looks: The Macbook air is cute and thin, but so are all netbooks. In fact 9 and 10 inch screens are inherently sexy!
- Weight: Netbooks win. Ok the Macbook has a 13 inch screen, but weight is weight.
- Performance: We have to wait on this because most netbooks have not been fully reviewed yet. Also expect different results with Linux and Windows XP OS versions, as well as with different CPUs from four -so far- suppliers. Apple has delivered really poor performance here, in any case performance is in no way the deciding factor for very light notebooks.
- Connectivity: Destined to rely on wireless connectivity, the Macbook is the most arrogant mobile computer to hit the market ever! One USB connection? It is a real joke. Pointless to compare…
- Price: Here is the real joke. Apple asks for $1,800, roughly four times more than the $400-$500 for most netbooks!!!! For the price of one Macbook you can buy netbooks for the whole family. Is that cool or what?
The Macbook Air is a monument of arrogance from Apple’s part. Not because it is a bad product, but because its price and connectivity are insulting for the intelligence of consumers. In fact, the comparison with netbooks is no real comparison as netbooks are better in everything apart from screen size and thickness, the later being according to Apple an all important property for modern notebooks because you can also slice bread… No further comment…
