Atom spills to normal desktop “nettop” PCs

Intel might be spreading its wings with Atom for the mobile skies, but nobody says that the new CPU family is not suitable for desktop nettop applications. TranquilPC of the UK is a good example, already listing on its site models with a Microsoft or Linux OS and usual, low cost optical drive and hard disc choices. The Atom 230 is the CPU model of choice, identical to the 270 everywhere, apart from power consumption which is double that of the 270 at 4W. Base pricing for the pictured T2e is €360.
Impressed? Hardly… Such low power -to the measure of CPU availability- low cost models are being sold for years now from the likes of Dell, so nothing new here. What is outstanding however is that what Intel might be gaining with Atom sales might be lost due to reduced Core 2 Duo demand. The next few months will show…
