JVC creates first 35 megapixel Super Hi-Vision projector

Source: Akihabara

Back in January, ElectronRun discussed Japan’s plans to go super-duper-ultra HD with the Hi-Vision system. In that post I analysed why I consider this an insane project for widespread adoption. JVC now announces the first single display device to achieved the required 35 megapixels of resolution.

It is a 1.75 inch D-ILA projector with an exact resolution of 8192×4320 (8Kx4K) and JVC is keen to point out that the high resolution does not sacrifice quality in any way. Apart from the technical details however, I would like to know who is going to try filming at 35Mp soon, and how the market would adopt such a not-so-incremental improvement.

I do not know about you, personally I find the state of HD filming and reproduction in a very confusing state. For the next stage of HD -after 1080p- we are in urgent need of adopting very realistic standards by the widest possible range of participants. Judging by the market’s resistance to even move away from the all-present DVD, it would be logical from as early as now to restrict Hi-Vision to extremely large screen special events…
