New Canon and Nikon DSLR rumours
ElectronRun has already mentioned the new Sony 24.8 megapixel full-frame sensor being prepared for forthcoming DSLR cameras. Given that Nikon is a really good Sony sensor customer, rumours on a forthcoming Nikon D3x with a -surprise surprise- 25 megapixel full-frame sensor are nothing but perfectly logical. A new Nikon D90 to replace the Nikon D80 is also mentioned.
At the same time, Canon’s 5D has seemingly completed its life cycle and new things are expected pretty soon under the 5d Mk II name. Sites like Photography Bay and Crave have plenty of gossip to keep you busy, you could also be entertained by plenty of photographic forums where users not only take guesses as to what the new specs will be, but also openly present their wish lists if they were to upgrade.
The above mentioned cameras are said to be arriving in June, but take all this with a grain of salt. Some posts are the result of unofficial “leaks” from manufacturer sources, while others can be far from reliable. In most cases -especially in that of Canon- manufacturers unofficially slip to the media a photo or two of the body to be released with some of the real spec. And all this a few days or weeks before the official announcement…
As far as DSLR buying decisions go, have in mind that the rumour and “unofficial” photo game is high level manufacturer antagonism to attract clients to one camp or another. At the present moment, you should also consider the fact that this year’s DSLR release climax is not June but the Photokina 2008 show that will take place in Cologne, Germany in September.
What is special about Photokina is that it is the world’s best show for imaging, that only happens once every two years. As a result, every manufacturer typically wants to have there at least one big release. So what I am saying here is that if you are confused, it will not get any better till September. Till then, go out, get some fresh air and shoot lots and lots of pictures with your current equipment…
