2 important features I expect from the rumoured Canon 5D Mk II DSLR
As Gizmodo states, Canon’s 5D DSLR is around for 2 1/2 years and a replacement is definitely on its way. This length of life is highly unusual for a digital camera, even if it is a semi-professional DSLR.
So what elements have made the 5D attractive for so long? Most of all its full-frame sensor, in a package that is unmatched in terms of picture quality and portability. The signs of time are however showing and you can now get the body for well below €2,000. On top of that you get some formidable competition from Nikon’s D3 and D300, challenging Canon’s domination in a way unseen for the last five or six years.
I am sure that some people have one way or another some inside information and know what they are talking about when it comes to new model specs. And of course it is the companies themselves that systematically leak confidential photos of new products and secret information about them. Whatever the truth about the specs in the link below, here is the two most important features I expect from the 5D Mk II:
-
Full-frame for a wider group of consumers, in other words better pricing for those of us that do not want to mess with EF-S lenses and problematic wide angle situations. Full-frame for all, like in the good old film days!
-
Weather sealing and better quality to cover even the most adverse scenarios. The 5D is used by professional photographers without question, but a better construction is nevertheless highly desirable.
If I talk about frame rates, megapixels, sensor cleaning, live-view and ISO performance it will be overkill, as I am sure that Canon will take care of those nicely as with all model upgrades.
The 5D has been a milestone product as it has made full-frame sensors more accessible. I doubt that its successor will manage to be the same breakthrough but at least it should be the allround star of the marketplace in a price more affordable to its predecessor.
